Employees at a Concord, California, shoe store garnered praise after their bought a pair of shoes for a man who couldn’t afford them.
The employees at Champs Sports were confused when a man named Tyree continually visited their store day in and day out to try on the exact same pair of shoes.
“Ten to 12 times, periodically coming in and, ‘Oh can I get these, can I try these on?’ But he never tried them on, that was the funny part,” employee Fernando Oliva told KGOTV.
Each time he visited the store, Tyree would go up to the register and leave the shoes there because he was unable to pay for them.
Olive ultimately decided to invite him to try the shoes on one more time – only to reveal to him that he and his co-workers pooled their money together to buy him the shoes.
“I just gave him the shoes and he tried them on and he asked, ‘How much are they?’ I said, ‘They are $160, but don’t worry about it, just try them on,’ and that’s when we surprised him,” he said.
Tyree thought Oliva was kidding about buying the shoes for him.
“I think he was astonished, he was like, ‘Wow, I’m getting shoes.’ It was really cool. We knew he was happy about it,” the employee said. Tyree was also gifted with a hat, a hoodie and a pair of athletic pants.
“It wasn’t just me, it was everyone in the Champs store that just helped out. It was real cool, it was a good deed. We didn’t expect anything out of this, at all,” Oliva said.
The story quickly went viral, with many praising the employees’ selfless actions.
“Good JOB Employees!!! Made that Mans Year!!! You made a great impression on him and he will never forget what you did for him,” one Newsiosity reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.
“Thank you employees…what if all humanity was like this, with people? What we could do together to solve homeless, abuse etc,” another added.
