A Los Angeles woman says her “heart dropped” when she discovered a hidden camera while using the restroom at a Dollar Tree discount store.
The incident occurred on Sept. 7, after Alexandria Sabori asked a Dollar Tree store employee if she could use the bathroom, but the employee told her to wait, KTLA reported.
“Let me check that there’s toilet paper and let me check that it’s nice and clean,” the employee said, according to Sabori who spoke with KTLA on Sept. 23.
When the employee finally let her use the restroom, Sabori noticed a cardboard box with a hole in it.
“I was very curious to see what was in the box,” Sabori told the news station. “Why was there a hole in the box?”
That’s when Sabori made the disturbing discovery that an iPhone was inside the box recording video. She said her “heart dropped.”
Sabori took the phone and requested to see a manager. The same employee who let Sabori use the restroom claimed he was the manager and that’s when Sabori contacted the authorities.
The employee, later identified as Carlos Martinez, was arrested.
Sabori said she was with her sister and 10-year-old niece at the time.
“This could’ve been my niece instead of me,” Sabori said, adding that she hopes her story will serve as a warning for others.
Ternesha Peoples, another local shopper, contacted the news station on Sept. 23 claiming the store employee had said the same things to her, her daughter and family friends.
“And each time he would say, ‘Oh I have to check and make sure there’s toilet paper’ or ‘I have to check and make sure it’s not wet,’ and then after he came out he would let us enter,” Peoples said.
