Maine is known to have some harsh winters. As are many of the northern border states of the United States. Snow is always bountiful and the ice is always invisible. But now a small business owner who is tasked with keeping everyone warm is discriminating against Donald Trump supporters at the most inopportune time.

In Maine, the owner of a propane dealership is refusing to deliver his gas to anyone who voted for President Elect Trump in this past November’s presidential election. His name is Michael Turner and he is owner and operator of Turner LP Gas of Skowhegan, Maine. And he makes his feelings very clear in a voice mail message that he leaves to members of the community. According to LifeZette Magazine the message states,

“Thank you for calling Turner LP gas. If you voted for Donald Trump for president I will no longer be delivering your gas — please find someone else.”

Turner is one of many business owners doing this. Back in the beginning of November the CEO of an Albuquerque, New Mexico based marketing firm decided to refuse business to Donald Trump supporters. He issued a public statement in which he said he would no serve Trump supporters.

Blanchfield is from a county of Hillary Clinton supporters that voted blue. But Turner is from a country of Trump supporters that voted red. Skowhegan is part of Somerset County, Maine where 57.73 percent of people vote for Donald Trump while 35 percent voted for Hillary Clinton. So his county voted overwhelmingly Trump.

Which means that Turner is willing to alienate half of the community, his customers, in a town that is not all that big to begin with. It is no Los Angeles, Atlanta, or New York City. Which also means he could be sacrificing his livelihood.

Maine is a very cold place in the winter, especially considering many senior citizens live in the Skowhegan area. Which means that these people rely on fuel deliveries to keep them going through the harsh and cold winter. This could mean life and death.

Average temperatures are below freezing in the Skowhegan area during the winter months where they average around 31 degrees in December to 26 degrees in January and 30 in February. This is a serious issue when their are few alternatives in such a small community.

Turner has not commented to the media on this.
