President-Elect Trump Issues Surprising Response To Protests (Photos)

After initially condemning protesters for taking to the streets in protest of his victory, President-elect Donald Trump backtracked and shared a message of support for the activists.

Following Trump’s victory in the presidential election, protesters took to the streets in cities across the country such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Oakland, and Boston, among others. According to The Washington Post, most of the Trump protesters were women and minorities.

Trump initially condemned the protestors in a post on his Twitter account.

“Just had a very open and successful presidential election,” he wrote. “Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair!”

Then, just one day later, the president-elect backtracked on his statement, offering his support to protesters instead.

“Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country,” he wrote. ” We will all come together and be proud!”

According to the Daily Mail, at least 26 protesters were arrested in Portland, Oregon, after police used flash grenades to control the crowd. Journalists described the scene as a “war zone.” At 8:30 p.m., police officially declared the scene a riot.

“Due to extensive criminal and dangerous behavior, protest is now considered a riot. Crowd has been advised,” Portland police said in a statement.
