A Facebook group called Elvis Presley is Alive claimed recently to have evidence that the iconic singer is indeed still alive, pointing to images of a man who attended a birthday ceremony on Elvis’ Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee.
Fans braved the cold January weather to honor the late singer on what would have been his 82nd birthday Jan. 8. Images from the ceremony show a small group of people huddled together on the front lawn while a cake is cut.
Reviewing the photos, conspiracy theorists on the Elvis is Alive Facebook page pointed to a heavy-set man present at the ceremony and indicated that he resembled what Elvis may have looked like as an 82-year-old man. He is wearing a black hat and sunglasses, and has a big white beard.
They also took note of three men standing in the background, suggesting that they were security guards hired to protect Elvis at the event.
A number of Facebook users seemed convinced.
“I did notice that man at a few points during the video and wondered if it was him,” one person wrote, according to the Daily Mail. “I thought, he’s hiding in plain sight again. The people next to him probably have no idea.”
“Must be our Elvis,” wrote another. “The bodyguards are so obvious. Wish I was there so much. I would have noticed him.”
Others argued that the man in the picture is actually Elvis’ twin brother, Jesse Garon Presley, who died a stillborn.
An auction held as part of the Elvis birthday festivities grossed a total of $330,531 in sales, according to The Commercial Appeal. Included in the auction was a yearbook signed by Elvis, a jewelry collection, firearms, and a blue suede jacket.
Elvis died August 16, 1977, at the age of 42, according to the Daily Mail. An autopsy found that he had suffered a fatal heart attack, possibly caused by an overdose of barbiturates.
