A Florida man garnered applause for projecting pro-police images on his daughter’s garage after being told by a local HOA that he wasn’t allowed to hang a Blue Lives Matter flag.
Jeff Gaddie told WJAX that he’d flown the flag outside of his daughter’s home for years, but was recently told by her Homeowner’s Association that a neighbor thought it was racist and wanted it removed.
“Although some people would like to think that it does, it has nothing to do with that,” Gaddie said. Neighborhood rules reportedly only allow American flags and military flags, despite the fact that WJAX found similar flags on display nearby. Gaddie attempted to contact First Coast Association Management, the organization that enforces the rules, to no avail.
“So far, the board has not answered any phone calls, they don’t answer emails, they haven’t responded to the appeal notice,” he said.
In response to the HOA’s decision, Gaddie decided to display pro-police images on his daughter’s garage using a projector – something that isn’t specifically prohibited by the HOA.
“It doesn’t seem to quite be covered that a projector from a vehicle projecting on your garage door is a violation of the HOA,” he said. The former law enforcement officer said he planned to argue his case during a meeting for homeowners.
“If it was something for some other non-important cause, it wouldn’t be an issue, but something this important you almost have to,” he said.
Many readers applauded Gaddie for finding ways to show police pride despite the fact that the flag wasn’t allowed to be flown.
“I hope this family and every other family flying a Blue Lives Matter continue to do so! I’m so sick and tired of folks being told they can’t, they are “offending” others! Too bad! THEY offend US! I personally have had enough!” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.
“Here is an idea. Become a board member and then have it voted on as an ‘approved flag’. Most people don’t want to be bothered with community service and it only takes the majority to vote it in,” another wrote.
“I served and retired from our great nations military ! I served with all races of men and women and feel that all people matter no matter what color or creed you are ! It pisses me off every time i see those BLM signs . They should be reading all lives matter . But i do support the police 100% ! People just need to take a chill pill and stop being so critical of others and respect each others rights that we have in this great nation ! Grow up already , the rest of us have,” another added.
