After Malia graduated from high school, she spent last fall on a tour of Latin America. In January, she also attended the Sundance Film Festival.

During her first week as an intern, she read scripts and pitched to executives.

She also had time to attend an HBO party for the series “Girls,” where she worked as an intern in 2015.

“Girls” creator Lena Dunham spoke to Howard Stern about Malia’s time as an intern.

“She was interested, and she was interning at HBO, and they thought ‘What if she comes a couple days a week to the set of Girls’,” Dunham said, according to ET Online.

She also noted that Malia did not rely on her status as the daughter of the president and first lady.

“Obviously, we weren’t making her go get our coffee,” added Dunham. “But she wanted to do all the jobs, that was the cool thing. She was totally enthusiastic.”

Dunham also had words of praise for the Obama family as a whole.

“She’s done such a good job, and clearly her parents have done such a good job,” said Dunham. “When you see that family together, they’re not performative.”
