Malia Obama caught the attention of the media with her new look when she was spotted in New York City after her family left the White House.
Malia Obama, daughter of former President Barack Obama, has been living in New York City since her family left the White House. The 19-year-old has been on an internship with the Weinstein Company, in their production/development department, according to the Inquisitr.
Obama made news when she stepped out in New York to show off her new look, with noticeable blonde highlights in her hair.
Photos of the former first daughter quickly spread on social media, with many complimenting the teen’s new look.
Obama is reportedly spending her internship with the Weinstein Company reviewing movie scripts to help decide which scripts will move on to the company’s higher-ups, according to the Inquisitr.
The teen previously spent time interning on the set of HBO’s “Girls.” The show’s star and creator Lena Dunham recently spoke to Howard Stern about what it was like working with the former President’s daughter on set.
“She’s an angel,” Dunham told Stern, according to Vanity Fair. “She was interning at HBO, and they thought, What if she comes a couple days a week to the set of ‘Girls?’ She loved the show, and I mean, obviously we weren’t, like, making her go get our coffee. You’re not going to send [the president’s daughter to get coffee]. But she wanted to do all the jobs. That was the cool thing. She was totally enthusiastic.”
Stern asked if Malia was around during any of the show’s racier scenes, to which executive producer Jenni Konner said, “Because of her age, we actually couldn’t do the graphic sex scenes around her if we wanted to.”
Konner explained Obama’s role on set.
“We were sort of training her to do what our writer’s assistant did,” she said. “There’s a job where you sit on the set and – we do a lot of improv – so you take down the improv so we can get it in the next shot. We had one of our people who did that train her to do that.”
Dunham said that Obama was accompanied by Secret Service on set, but that they went largely unnoticed. She said that other than the security, Malia was just a normal teen, noting however that she is “so smart.”
