Lady Gaga took to Instagram to respond to social media users who criticized her “pot belly” during her Super Bowl performance.
The pop singer’s Super Bowl LI halftime show in Houston was watched by more than 117 million people on Feb. 5, the Daily Mail reported. Her 13-minute long set included a medley of hits, such as “Bad Romance,” “Poker Face” and “Just Dance.”
But as Gaga glided through the Houston arena with a harness and sang her hit singles, some critics appeared to be more focused on her appearance.
“Gaga, that flap though!” wrote one Twitter user.
“I just feel like #Gaga’s dough should’ve been tucked in better,” wrote another.
Gaga’s fans were quick to jump to the singer’s defense.
“Can we talk about Lady Gaga’s cute belly?” tweeted one fan.
“I wish I had a pot belly,” tweeted another. “Pot bellies are sexy……… Like Madonna when she did lucky star.”
Lady Gaga took to Instagram to respond to criticism about her body:
I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I’m proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too. No matter who you are or what you do. I could give you a million reasons why you don’t need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed. Be you, and be relentlessly you. That’s the stuff of champions. thank you so much everyone for supporting me. I love you guys. Xoxo, gaga
The days leading up to Gaga’s Super Bowl LI halftime performance were clouded in controversy, as some people speculated the singer would use the platform to bash President Donald Trump.
Instead, Gaga took a more subtle approach by opening her set with “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land.”
