As Ivanka Trump and her family begin moving into a house near the nation’s capital, people are raising eyebrows at the collection of inexpensive Ikea furniture with which she chose to furnish her $5.5 million home. But it was the poster taped in the front of her house that really turned heads.
As the new 35-year-old mom and her investor-turned presidential adviser husband, Jared Kushner, have been preparing for life in Washington and for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, movers were greeted by a flier for an anti-Trump protest in Washington, taped to a streetlight directly outside their house, reports the Daily Mail.
Workers were seen carrying dozens of Ikea products, including a single “Malm” bed, two large couches and boxes of dishes into the six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home. In addition to the Swedish self-assembly items, the family had also selected a number of furniture products from Restoration Hardware and a number of new surveillance cameras that security engineers set up outside the house.
The Trump-Kushner family will have some interesting neighbors, as well: Their new home is just around the corner from outgoing President Barack Obama and his family in the exclusive Kalorama neighborhood near the capital.
The family of five’s move has been anything but a low-key affair. On Jan. 16, “Help Ivanka Move” protesters gathered outside of the younger Trump’s apartment in New York City carrying boxes with messages for her as her father prepares to assume office.
“The boxes represent freedoms that people are fearful of losing,” Halt Action Group wrote in a press release, according to The Huffington Post.
The many boxes bore messages about freedom of speech, affordable health care, LGBT rights, women’s health, global warming, nuclear power and immigration.
Ivanka has not commented on any protests outside either her new or old residences.
