Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told a 9/11 sex joke at a $350 per plate pre-inauguration lunch on Jan. 19 in Washington D.C.

Giuliani, who was named as an informal cybersecurity adviser by new President Donald Trump, recalled being in a convoy with then-President George W. Bush on Sept. 14, 2001, on their way to the site of the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, notes The Intercept:

That’s actually a true story about President Bush. The part that he left out was in the same car with me was my fire commissioner, Tom Van Essen. And Tom had just lost what turned out to be 343 firefighters.

And President Bush recognized him from seeing him on television over the prior two days. And he leaned over to Tom, grabbed his arm, and said to him, “Tom, I’m so sorry. How are things going?” Tom looked at him and said, “Much better now. My wife came home last night and I got lucky.”

Giuliani used the “locker room talk” excuse that Trump used after he was caught on tape bragging about sexually assaulting women: “That’s locker room talk. President Bush remembered that so well that when he saw Tom three weeks later at a fire house dinner, he came up to him and said, ‘Tom, are you still getting lucky?’ And Tom said, ‘No, it’s worn out.'”

Giuliani made news in August 2016 when he was warming up a crowd for then-presidential nominee Trump, and made this false claim: “Under those eight years, before Obama came along, we didn’t have any successful radical Islamic terrorist attack in the United States. They all started when [Hillary] Clinton and Obama got into office,” reported The Hill.

Giuliani renamed 9/11 a “foreign attack” while praising then-vice presidential nominee Mike Pence:

He’s a member of the Foreign Affairs and Judiciary committees, and during the time of Sept. 11, when we went through the worst foreign attack in our history, since the War of 1812. Remember, we didn’t start this war. They did.

We don’t want this war. They do. And they didn’t start it even in 2001. They attacked the World Trade Center in 1993 and they attacked it under the ideology of radical Islamic extremism to create a caliphate … Mike Pence understands this.
