Social media is buzzing after a photo of President Donald Trump at a wedding reception at Mar-a-Lago has gone viral.
According to Enrique Acevedo on Twitter, the photo was taken moments after Trump was alerted about the surprise missile test in North Korea. The provocative action marks the first significant foreign policy challenge of Trump’s administration. And many people are concerned about a photo that was released which appears to show Trump enjoying himself at a wedding reception only moments after he received word of the missile launch.
As CNN reports, Trump was entertaining Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at his Palm Beach club. The two played golf together and were eating lunch when a call came in for Trump alerting him of North Korea’s missile test. The missile reportedly flew 310 miles from North Korea’s eastern coast and crashed into the Sea of Japan. The incident has prompted major concerns from the country’s neighbors, primarily Japan and South Korea, who consider North Korea a threat in the region.
Upon hearing of the missile test, Trump and Abe convened a news conference where they agreed to “strongly demand” that North Korea “abandon its nuclear and ballistic missile program.”
Trump made a brief statement, in part declaring: “I just want everybody to understand and fully know that the United States of America stands behind Japan, its great ally, 100%.”
As Trump and Abe sat for dinner, a flurry of activity occurred around them as advisers fielded phone calls and consulted with the president and prime minister. Trump convinced Abe to join him at a wedding reception at Mar-a-Lago.
It was at the wedding that the photo of Trump smiling amidst a buzz of activity is alleged to have been taken.
Some feel it shows the president is unconcerned about a very serious situation. As one Twitter user wrote, “Though only a moment in time, this photo perfectly describes his 1st month. Self admiration amidst chaos.”
Trump eventually made a speech during the wedding itself.
“I saw them out on the lawn today,” Trump said of the bride and groom. “I said to the Prime Minister of Japan, I said, ‘C’mon Shinzo, let’s go over and say hello.’ They’ve been members of this club for a long time,” Trump concluded. “They’ve paid me a fortune.”
