He has been known as one of the United States’ most prominent military officers, has now been heard saying he would be more than willing to serve under the Leadership of President-elect Donald Trump’s administration.
Petraeus resigned as a CIA director back in 2012, shortly after an affair he had with his biographer. Later after that, it was revealed that he had also shared classified material with her.
He has previously served as a senior officer under the direction of Presidents Bush and Obama. His resume also consists of commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, before he took his retirement from the military when he accepted the top position in the CIA.
When asked if he thought if Trump has the temperament to take the White House as the next U.S. President and his response came at a bit of a surprise for many.
“It’s up to Americans at this point in time not only to hope that that is the case, but if they can, endeavor to help him.”
Following that comment in the interview he also made it known that he would gladly accept a position from Trump is it were offered to him.
“If you’re asked, you’ve got to serve – put aside any reservations based on campaign rhetoric… and figure out what’s best for the country,” he said.
“I’ve been in a position before where a president has turned to me in the Oval Office in a difficult moment, without any pleasantries, and said ‘I’m asking you as your president and Commander in Chief to take command of the international security force in Afghanistan.’
“The only response can be: ‘yes, Mr President,’” he continued.
Many different media outlets have in fact been linking the retired general to a possible position being offered to him in Trump’s new administration. However, only time will tell for sure.
Although he is more than willing to accept a position, Petraeus has been known to indirectly criticize some of Trump’s rhetoric that had came out during the presidential election campaign.
In reference to Trump’s opinion on Muslims an immigration, Petraeus called it toxic.
However, he said that he has heard good things about Trump from those who have been speaking with our President-elet since the election results have come out, and all of it has been very impressive.
Here’s to the future folks, no matter what’s to come…. just knowing that it’s Trump deciding the possible future for America, is a comfort.
Especially after 8 years of Obama.
