Actress and talk show host Ricki Lake announced the death of her 45-year-old ex-husband and “soulmate” Christian Evans on Instagram Feb. 14.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share that my beloved soulmate, Christian Evans has passed. The world didn’t understand this man, but I did. He succumbed to his life long struggle with bipolar disorder,” Lake, 48, wrote beneath a photo showing the two of them having a happy moment, the Daily Mail reports.
“For anyone who has ever lost a family member or friend to mental illness, my heart goes out to you. I am a greater person for having known him and spent the past 6 and a half years of my life with him. He was a man of love and what mends my broken heart today is knowing that he is finally at peace and his spirit is free. Rest in peace, my love,” she further wrote.
The cause of his death was not revealed.
Lake and Evans, a jewelry designer, began dating in 2010 and tied the knot in an elopement in April 2012. They parted ways in October 2014 as Lake began divorce proceedings. The couple finalized their divorce in 2015 despite an announced pause in December 2014, TMZ reports.
During the divorce, Evans accused Lake of defrauding him when they negotiated the prenuptual agreement and tried to have it not be a factor in the divorce.
The talk show star had a prior marriage from 1994 to 2004 with illustrator and bartender Rob Sussman and had sons Milo, 19, and Owen, 15, with him.
“The Ricki Lake Show” show was on air for 11 years from 1993 to 2004.
She did a cameo on NBC’s “Hairspray Live!” in December. The actress debuted as Tracy Turnblad in the movie “Hairspray” that was filmed in 1988.
In early February she showed up as a guest judge on the BBC’s British talent show “Let It Shine” along with Gary Barlow and Dannii Minogue.
In 2011, she competed on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” and won third place behind Rob Kardashian and winner J.R. Martinez.
