An unnamed driver from Nanling county in Wuhu city, China, was driving to his mother’s house when he noticed an elderly woman injured on the side of the road.
“My car does not have a dashboard recorder, so I didn’t stop,” he told the Anhui Business Daily.
When he arrived at his mother’s house, neighbors told him his mother had left early to meet him. He then discovered the woman he left in the road was his mother. He returned to her and called an ambulance, but she died on the way to the hospital.
Another driver confessed to the police that they hit the elderly woman with their vehicle and ran away.
It’s not uncommon for drivers to avoid helping the injured, even if the victims are elderly. More and more good Samaritans are being sued for trying to help people. In 2011, a 2-year-old was run over by two delivery trucks in Foshan, China, but no one offered to help her. In fact, no one called for help except for a trash collector, who arrived 7 minutes later.
