Chelsea Handler Reveals Moving Plans Now That Trump Is President

Ardent Hillary Clinton supporter comedian Chelsea Handler announced on her Netflix talk show Nov. 9 she is tempted to move out of the country now that Donald Trump has been elected president.

“I want to move to Spain,” she said, the Daily Mail reports. “I really, really want to move to Spain right now. Everyone in my office is like, ‘you have a responsibility, you have a voice and you need to use it and you have to be here.'”

Handler had invited Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California to discuss the results.

She had promised to follow Clinton’s example and not cry, but she could not hold the tears back.

“Sorry, I hate f***ing crying on camera,” a sobbing Handler said.

Despite her initial desire to leave the U.S., Handler says she will stay.

“I know as a woman, it feels so sexist [that Trump won],” she said. “I guess the message I went to get out is not to give up. Because this is so important. It’s easy to throw in the towel.”

Many responded to her comments with anger.

“Bye…if you feel like you need to leave a country because you didn’t get your way, you’re a. Not an adult and b. Are not mentally stable,” wrote one man on the Daily Mail’s Facebook page.

Others empathized with Handler.

“I do feel for you though,” another user who doesn’t live in the U.S. said. “I’d hate for him to be in charge over here. Racist pig who treats women like sex objects. The fact that Hilary got more votes than him counts for nothing.”

Handler is just one of many celebrities expressing their deep anguish over Trump’s victory.

Comedian Seth Meyers recalled on TV how miserable his mother, also called Hillary, was when they heard the news Clinton would not be the first female president.

“She was really excited yesterday and I was really sad for her,” he said, before adding his own remarks about his own pain.

“I do really feel for the parents who had to explain this to their kids this morning,” said Meyers, who has recently become a father. “Especially parents with daughters because a lot of them like me probably thought Hillary would be our first woman president.”
