Donald Trump has officially overseen his first military operation, and the media has been quick to deem it a failure. Navy SEALs were sent into Yemen, where Al Qaeda is still powerful, to conduct a raid. Over a dozen terrorists were killed, and we were able to get a lot of intel, but unfortunately, one of our SEALs died. According to the media, this was because Trump didn’t take his time in planning the assault — but is it actually because of a traitor in the White House?
Barack Obama was the one overseeing the War on Terror before Trump took office, and this is part of why it is so vital for there to be a smooth transition between administrations. It is not unusual for counter-terrorism operations to be planned months in advance, with the planning taking place in one administration, and the implementation taking place in another. This is what happened with the Yemen raid.
In addition to killing a sizable number of Al Qaeda fighters, the military was able to recover cell phones, laptops, plans, thumb drives, and more. Still, Trump wouldn’t call the raid a success, due to the death of Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens, in addition to three SEALs who were wounded in combat. Yet speculation has begun that the enemy knew that our SEALs were coming, and were prepared for the firefight.
ABC reported that “Al-Qaeda fighters seemed ready for Sunday’s deadly Navy SEAL raid in Yemen.” The source told ABC, “It was clear that the AQAP fighters in the compound knew the Americans were coming and engaged them with heavy weapons.” Some believe that the Obama administration had extensive knowledge of the planned attack, and leaked the information to Al Qaeda sources in Yemen.
Is it implausible that an outgoing president would purposefully sabotage an incoming president? Some believe that Lyndon B. Johnson knew of the plot to assassinate John F. Kennedy, and it is believed that the Bush administration was given conflicting information and bad intelligence about Iraq before they took over.
So far, there are only questions, with very little proof or evidence to back up these claims. But if Al Qaeda did know that our troops were coming, then clearly, someone is leaking information somewhere. And as long as that is happening, our military — and possibly our president — is in grave danger.
