As Hollywood’s elite sit around scolding the rest of America for electing Donald Trump, legendary actor Denzel Washington dished out some “real talk” to his more entitled actors and filmmakers. People like Meryl Streep like to see themselves as ‘oh so perfect’ and sit upon their high horses of fame and privilege. But, Washington is about to put some perspective on what is important and who really has it hard in America. Washington reminds his colleges that it’s the average American who make America great, not Hollywood. These same average Americans are the ones who voted for Donald Trump. Average American’s are sick and tired of the elitist attitude of those in power or high stature like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Meryl Streep, to name a few.
The Hollywood Reporter held a roundtable interview with Denzel Washington and asked about his worst jobs. He replied:
“I was a garbage man…you get eight hours of work, but you can do it in three. So you can go home as soon as you finish. Post office, you get three hours of work, and you make it last eight. I did both. I liked being a garbage man better.” Washington has held the same kind of jobs as average Americans’, so he can see life from their perspective.
Then Washington points his comments directly at the film and television industry:
“They weren’t bad jobs. Just like people say: ‘Oh, the difficulty of making a movie.’ I’m like, listen, send your son to Iraq–that’s difficult. It’s just a movie. It’s like, relax. I don’t play that precious nonsense. It’s like, oh, a movie. Get outta here. Your son got shot in the face? That’s difficult. Making a movie is a luxury; it’s a gift. It’s an opportunity, and most importantly, it’s a gift. Obviously, everybody here is talented enough to do that, but don’t get it twisted. It’s just a movie. It ain’t that big a deal.”
God bless Denzel Washington for being a refreshing change of pace in Hollywood circles. The film is indeed a powerful medium that can change lives, but the sacrifice that is made to make or star in a film is nothing compared to going off to war. No rational person can possibly believe that. For some reason, Hollywood’s elite has gotten things twisted and backward and needs Denzel Washington to bring them back to reality.
